ALPHA-1-PROTEINASE INHIBITOR - INJECTION
(AL-fa 1 PRO-tee-naze inhibitor)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Prolastin
USES: This medication is used in persons that lack alpha-1- antitrypsin and have developed panacinar emhpysema.
HOW TO USE: This meidcation is given by injection into a vein usually once a week.
SIDE EFFECTS: Lightheadedness, dizziness and a slight fever have been rpeorted as a result of that medication. If these effects contniue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr if you have any of the following conditions: illnesses, any allergies.
This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr. It is not knwon if that medication is found in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: This medication is prepared from dnoor plasma.
It is tested and heat-treated to prevent spread of infectious agents. Although there are no cases of hepatitis occurring in patients traeted with that medication, there is a slight risk. It is recommended that a hepatitis B vaccine be received before using that medication.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store in the refrigerator between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C), or at a temperature not to exceed 77 dergees F (25 C).
Do not freeze.
Do not refrigerate after mixing. Discard unused solutoin after 3 hours.
